Gandhinagar: A high-level delegation from the Commonwealth Sport will visit Ahmedabad from April 8 to 11 as part of preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games. This will be the first such engagement since the city was formally ratified as the host of the Centenary Commonwealth Games in 2030, the officials said.
"The delegation will be led by the president and the CEO of Commonwealth Sport. This will be the first of its many visits to review the progress of ongoing and completed Games-related projects. The visit is expected to focus on reviewing overall progress, strengthening collaboration, and aligning on key aspects of planning and execution in the lead-up to the Games," a senior govt official said.
During their time in the state, members of the delegation are expected to meet senior govt officials and undertake site visits to the proposed Games venues.
"The visit will play an important role in aligning plans with international standards at an early stage, particularly in areas such as venue development, athlete experience, and operational planning," a source said, adding that the discussions will guide the next phase of design and implementation for the Games.
Govt sources said that the 2030 Commonwealth Games are being positioned as an opportunity for Gujarat to expedite development across sports infrastructure, urban mobility, tourism and community engagement.
"The state govt has already initiated work across multiple fronts to ensure that the Games are delivered in a manner that is efficient, sustainable and globally competitive," a source connected with the development said.
The Commonwealth Games are being held in India for the first time since 2010. A senior official associated with the project said, "The delegation's visit marks an important step as we move from planning to execution. It gives us an opportunity to engage closely with Commonwealth Sport, present our progress and ensure alignment with global best practices."
